World Premiere | Commissioned by Bleach* Festival
Before the written word defined history, storytelling – be it dance (the movements), music (the sounds), geography (the environment) or customs (the practices), provided the connection between communities and their past, their people and their sense of place.
Newly commissioned by Bleach* Festival in 2016, Shifting Sands presents a momentous celebration of the cultures, the communities and the characters of Currumbin Estuary.
The world premiere of Shifting Sands is a free, outdoor extravaganza, unlike anything the Gold Coast has seen before.
The water of the estuary itself will provide the stage, the sand of the creek banks will form the seating and the surrounding vantage points are the perfect natural auditorium for large audiences.
With a stunning performance by the Queensland Ballet’s Jette Parker Young Artists, subtle soundscapes, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, life savers, dragon boats, circus and dance, accompanied by narration from local voices and the sounds of the Gold Coast’s Bobby Alu, Shifting Sands will evoke an emotional sense of pride in an undoubtedly praiseworthy place.
